Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Our Journey so far...

We got off to an exciting start in Year 2 with a visit from ‘Florence Nightingale’ who told us all about her life and experiences in the Crimean War.

Year 2 Projects - Friday 3rd November 2017

We had some amazing projects from the children on Oliver’s Vegetables and Florence Nightingale. Thoroughly enjoyable for everyone with lots of wonderful ideas and creativity!

Trip to The Shoe and Boot Museum in Northampton

On Tuesday 14th November 2017 we had our first exciting trip to The Shoe and Boot Museum in Northampton. During this visit we learnt about the history of shoes and boots in Northampton. We took part in two workshops entitled ‘Shoemaking’ and ‘The History of Shoes’. We learnt about how shoes are made and about different kinds of shoes through the ages. We even got to try on some shoes made of different materials such as leather, wood, straw and silk.

We also had a visit from Zap & Toes in Towcester where we learnt the importance of well-fitting shoes and foot hygiene.

KS1 Christmas Production

On Thursday 7th December 2017 we had our Key Stage One Christmas Production where we performed to parents and friends. Through a mixture of songs, dance and poetry the Year 2 portrayed the true story of Christmas.

Samuel Pepys Visit

We were very fortunate to have a visit from ‘Samuel Pepys’ on Tuesday 20th February 2018. During this visit we found out about events which contributed to the spread of the Great Fire of London. We also had the opportunity to ask him questions and to take part in a re-enactment of how the fire started.

Year 2 Projects - Friday 23rd February 2018

We had some super science projects from the children linked to our theme ‘recycling’. Mrs Marchini and Miss Grant were blown away with the innovative ideas and even got some tips on how to cut down our plastics consumption.

Science Day – Skittles Experiment

Friday 9th March 2018

To celebrate science day year 2 conducted a science investigation. We placed skittles onto a paper plate in alternating colours. We then carefully poured warm and cold water onto the plate and then watched to see what happened! From this investigation we found out that Skittles are coated in food colouring and sugar so when you pour water over them, the coloured coating dissolves spreading through the water. The colour and sugar dissolve into the water and then diffuse through the water.

Visit from Jo Elijah
On Thursday 15th March, Year 2 had the opportunity to meet Mrs Jo Elijah, a renowned member of the local Jewish community. Jo explained about the Jewish way of life, and about the importance of the Torah to the Jewish people.

Year 2 Trip to Museum of Natural History in Oxford

On Wednesday 21st March 2018 year 2 had the exciting opportunity visit the Museum of Natural History. We explored the Museum of Natural History which is one of Europe’s greatest heritage wonders.  The children had first-hand experience of many fascinating and intriguing natural objects and took part in a Classification workshop.
